Exercise-induced transient abdominal pain (ETAP) 'Stitch'

A common problem in runners and other sports such as equestrian. The cause of stitch is often obscure and many theories circulate. The most plausible explanation currently is that the condition is caused by irritation of the parietal peritoneum during movement. It can also be due to referral from the thoracic spine and a rare condition known as MALS (Median Arcuate Ligament Syndrome).
